OT practitioners include:
Standards of practice (AOTA, 2015):To practice as an OT individual must graduate from a US ACOTE accredited program and complete fieldwork supervised by an OT. OT practitioners are responsible for assessment, intervention, and re-evaluation. They are responsible for documentation and measuring outcomes. OT practitioners are responsible for maintaining evidence based practices, and keeping up to date on laws that affect practice and follow the code of ethics. OTs are responsible for client centered practice and identifying client goals and achievements.
Specific roles of OTA:
Occupational therapist assistants
With an OT, OTA are equally responsible for developing a collaborative plan for supervision.
OTA has a responsibility to seek and obtain appropriate supervision to ensure OT is being provided.
OTA responsible to seek the appropriate quality and frequency of supervision to ensure safe and effective OT service delivery.
OTAs are responsible for demonstrating service competency and to also not accept delegated responsibilities that go beyond the scope of an OTA.
